Outrage culture has more in common with rape culture than accountability culture

Outrage culture is not social discourse. Outrage culture does not create the conditions for meaningful or productive community engagement with divergent ideas, nor does it create the conditions for greater public access to information about important social issues. Although it’s most passionate defenders will often claim their outrage is in service to educating people about their blindspots and “holding them to account,” outrage culture has more in common with rape culture than accountability culture.
